What are The Benefits of Using Jojoba Oil for the Beard?

on

When you start taking an interest in beard care, you have to pretty quickly get used to a lot of different ingredient names getting thrown around that you might not be familiar with. Shea butter, different essential oils, grapeseed oil, the list goes on.

Some, like coconut oil or avocado oil, you’ll probably be able to figure out on your own, but jojoba oil is a common ingredient in beard care products, especially the premium products from Fresh Beards, that not everyone knows off the top of their head. What is jojoba oil, and what is the point of using it so much? Let’s break it down!

What is Jojoba Oil?

Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-ho-bah) is made from the seeds of the jojoba plant, and it is a very common ingredient in lots of different kinds of care products and cosmetics, not just beard care. Jojoba oil is moisturizing and nourishing, just like lots of different kinds of oils, but the thing that sets it apart from the crowd is that jojoba oil is very similar to the natural oils that your skin produces, which is called sebum. It’s primarily made up of “wax esters,” which is the same thing sebum is made up of.

Jojoba oil is lightweight, non-greasy, non-comedogenic (which means it won’t clog the pores), and your skin and hair accept it very easily because it’s so close to the oil that your body already makes. This means it’s very effective for treating hair and skin anywhere on the body, so it’s a popular ingredient and one that you’ll find in lots of Fresh Beards products.

Benefits of Jojoba Oil

Now that we’ve covered what jojoba oil is and where it comes from, here are just a few of the many benefits of using it!

Conditions Hair

Jojoba oil helps to moisturize, soften, and smooth the hairs of your beard and mustache, taming unruliness and helping to reduce any dryness or brittleness. This will make your facial hair feel better and be easier to style.

Moisturizes Skin and Reduces Oiliness

Dry, itchy skin on your face can be a major issue when you sport a beard, and jojoba oil is a great way to counteract this by deeply moisturizing your skin. Counterintuitively, it can also be good to help reduce oiliness in the skin and beard.

Here’s how that crazy trick works. While you might see oiliness as the opposite problem of dryness, in many cases dryness actually leads to oiliness to begin with. A dry, thirsty beard and skin will cause your face to overproduce oil to counteract the dryness, leaving you with a greasiness issue. By hydrating with jojoba oil, which closely resembles your skin’s natural oils, you can send the message that so much oil isn’t needed because the dryness is taken care of, and you can reduce how oily your beard gets!

Reduces Dandruff

Because of its moisturizing effects and the vitamins, nutrients, and antifungal and antibacterial properties it provides, jojoba oil is great at reducing beard dandruff and flakes.

Reduces Acne

The same moisturizing and antibacterial properties that make jojoba oil good for fighting dandruff can make it good for fighting acne as well. Because it’s non-comedogenic and won’t clog your pores, jojoba oil has another leg up, and by using it to moisturize and reduce oiliness, you can frequently make a dent in a beard acne problem.

Encourages Growth

If you’re trying to grow a long, healthy beard, you need to take care of it properly to both encourage fast growth and to prevent brittleness and breakage that will cost you precious length. Moisturizing regularly and feeding your skin and hair with ingredients like jojoba oil are going to help you grow that beard out faster than you would be able to without proper beard care!

As you can see, jojoba oil is a very effective ingredient when it comes to beard care, and when you combine it with other powerful ingredients to make premium beard care products, like we do at Fresh Beards, you only reap more of the benefits! Next time you shop for beard care supplies, keep an eye out for jojoba oil on the label. It can do you a world of good!
